BJP managed to get clear victory in Panvel municipal election. But, Shiv Sena didn't even open its account in Panvel, which was really shocking for them because, during last phase of campaigning, party chief Uddhav Thackeray had campaigned there.
On the day when BJP govt is celebrating its three years at centre there was good news for Congress who emerged victorious in Bhiwandi and Malegaon. Whereas BJP managed to get clear victory in Panvel municipal election. But, Shiv Sena didn't even open its account in Panvel, which was really shocking for them because, during last phase of campaigning, party chief Uddhav Thackeray had campaigned there.
In Panvel, BJP has won 44 out of 78 wards and is leading in six seats. BJP's nearest competitor PWPI is far behind with 17 seats. Congress and NCP have won only 1 seat each so far.
In the recently held municipal corporations elections in state, Shiv Sena had only managed to win two corporations one is Mumbai and second is Thane. But, today's result of Panvel corporations has raised serious questions. For Panvel Municipal corporation, Shiv Sena had contested on all 78 seats, but didn't even open the account.
Sena had a Member of Parliament from Mawal Loksabha constituency Shreerang Barane under which Panvel corporation falls. But till last minute, Sena kept it self busy in bargaining for seats with BJP for this election. BJP had offered 22 seats to Shiv Sena for forming alliance, but Sena wanted 30 seats. This was golden opportunity which Sena missed to acquire power with BJP. Sena couldn't reach in rural areas which affected them most in this election.
The story of Bhiwandi and Malegaon local body elections is not any different. In Bhiwandi, Shiv Sena, who was earlier in alliance with the Congress, was fighting separately this time and won only 9 seats, and in Malegaon, Shiv Sena got victory on 11 seats.
Now, the big task infront of Shiv Sena is to introspect what exactly went wrong in all these local body and corporation elections. As results only indicates that Sena has totally failed to attract voters out side Mumbai and Thane, which shows Sena's disconnect with rural Maharashtra. Whereas BJP is spreading its wings across the state, and now, Congress is gaining momentum.
